a Question, a Challenge & a Gift,

I posted this image on Instagram recently, with the question: what color do you think this painting is? (clue: it isn’t actually grey!)

At the time I write this to you, no one has guessed. So the challenge remains open: what color do you think it is?

IMG_3762

Comment below, or email me your answer, the first person who guesses the color wins a half price place in my upcoming color adventure: TWELVTY 2018.  Just £48 instead of the usual £97. Lawks!!

Which leads me to the next part of this post, speaking of color adventures:

a Gift for you: “TWELVTY XTRA”

While I was busy in researching color for the TWELVTY program, there was one aspect I came back to with each color, with increasing fascinationthe way that colors behave (and misbehave) in each other’s company.

It really lit up my imagination.

So much so, I wanted to share some of the magic I uncovered with you. So I’ve created a mini ecourse all about color combining.

What happens:

  • Every day for one week I’ll send a chapter in the story of color combining.
  • The story is illustrated with paintings created using only 2 or 3 colors.
  • I’m looking at combinations you might not have explored before, to open up new ideas.
  • We’ll investigate the mood and memories attached to the colors.
  • I’ll show you exclusive video demonstrations of the process I use to make them.
  • I’ll share some insights I picked up along the way in my adventure around the color wheel.
  • All this is for FREE – for YOU!

Whatever your creative field – be it painting, art journaling, photography – home decoration or cake decoration – digital, textile, film or fashion – there’s something here for you!

Sign up here and I’ll email you as soon as it’s available later in the month:

Your email is utterly safe to me. I’ll send you a little welcome note with my ebook all about color. You’re welcome to unsubscribe at any time.

All through 2017 I’ve been exploring the subject of color in a year long visual adventure: one color each month. Over the last 12 days of the year I’ve shared a little insight into what I made through the year, and today we reach the end of the journey, the circle is complete.

Each month I continued adding more single color doodles and collaged ephemera to the pages to this art journal, these are the closing pages.

If you missed the previous posts, you can catch up here: Starting out in  Yellow, then Yellow-Green, Green, Blue-Green, Blue and Blue-Violet, next Violet, then Red-Violet, Red then Red-Orange and finally Orange. Now we’ve arrived full circle! Yikes what a trip!!

Wishing you a fabulously colorful new year! Much love to you X

Twelvty-Eight: Red-Violet

From maroon to magenta, pomegranate to plum.

“Mauve? Mauve is just pink trying to be purple.”

~ James Abbot McNeill Whistler,
American Painter and Printmaker, 1834-1903

colorwheelI love color, and I’m fascinated by the way it appears in life, how it interacts, how it’s assigned meaning.

Throughout 2017 I explored color on a much deeper level in a year long visual adventure,  ‘TWELVTY’, a trip around the color wheel exploring one color each month.

I shared the adventure with a group of artists and creatives in the form of an online program. It was the most fun, compiling resources and information on each of the 12 colors.

When we tune our eyes in to notice the colors around us, life becomes brighter and more vibrant.

Each month I played just with the one color the was focus for the month, pushing my imagination to find new ways to create within these boundaries, by adding more single color pages to this mixed media art journal.

Over the last 12 days of the year I want to show you a glimpse of this project.

We began with Yellow, Yellow-Green, then Green, Blue-Green, Blue and Blue-Violet, yesterday we looked at Violet. Tomorrow we’ll step around to Twelvty-Nine: Red

colorwheelColor is an integral part to all types of creativity.

Colors have been assigned meanings and connections throughout history and around the world.

Sometimes these overlap and sometimes they are contradictory. Color is a great metaphor for so many aspects this wildly paradoxical trip we call life.

Through 2017 I’ve been exploring color in a year long visual adventure: devoting myself to just one color each month.

In Twelvty-Four I had the most fun making a series of layered stitched collages, made from dyed paper and fabrics, embellished with beads and buttons and shiny things.

Each month also has a few pages of single color doodles in this mixed media art journal.

Over the last 12 days of the year I’m sharing a glimpse of this 12 month project.
